Vessel is a multi-sensory perfume project aimed at celebrating art and beauty, whilst challenging outdated perfume traditions. In premiering his first four fragrance creations, perfume writer, speaker and historian Dimitri Dimitriadis has resisted conventional avenues to market, circumventing bricks and mortar and e-commerce sales platforms in favour of a more curatorial, aesthetic approach.

Dimitri has appointed four local and national artists whom are innovators in their field – each one equipped with their own tools, methods and materials – and has asked them to craft five vessels each which will hold a volume of perfume; an extrait: perfume’s most concentrated and luxurious manifestation.

Presented within a never-yet-seen exhibition-style framework, North Metropolitan Tafe’s Gallery Central will be transformed with several installations where the vessels become the storytellers, rather than the fragrance, as is tradition.

In this environment, VESSEL invokes all the senses: scent, sight, sound, taste and emotion; allowing one’s own internal monologues to interpret the vessel, its form, its texture and its contents. VESSEL casts a light on the narratives of the artists, their communion with Dimitri as the perfumer, and the immersive experience they have crafted as a collective.

Given perfume is temporary – a fleeting indulgence – just twenty vessels will be offered to purchase. Once these extraordinary objets d’art have evaporated, the perfume formulas will be retired indefinitely.

Such is the ephemeral nature of scent.
